AMERICAN LEGION POST NO. 199 1020 11th Street WEST PALM BEACH, FL 33407-0278 EIN 59-6200876 August 16, 2021 The American Legion's motto is "Veterans Strengthening America." The American Legion Post 199 supports the welfare of fellow service members, veterans, and their families in the West Palm Beach, Florida area and into other Counties. Post 199 has the same issues as most businesses and organizations, the inability to generate funds due to COVID-19 restrictions. Post 199 generates the largest amount of our revenue by renting the Post Hall. Post 199 was closed for almost 7 months and potential clients have been reluctant to come out to have large gatherings during this time. The building property is over 75 years old. The roof of the Post building is suffering from age and most recently major rain damage, which has resulted in the roof having to be replaced. The cost is $30,000 to replace the flat roof. In 2018-2019 we were able to secure a grant to renovate most of the building, but not enough to complete the renovations. Now the roof damage is threatening all the good work that was done. Post 199 has been cited with a Correction Notice-Violation by the local Building Department to correct the deficiency of a leaning wall. The cost is $25,000. Part of our security wall is a 6 x150 ft concrete wall that is deteriorating and starting to lean over into our neighbors' yard, which has caused concern from our neighbor and immediate need to replace as not to cause more damage or harm. The goal is to raise $60,000.00 Your support will mean a great deal, and it will allow Post 199 to give back to the Veterans, our homeless feeding program, scholarships, and youth programs.
